KS3 D&T Students Working with Metal
Our KS3 curriculum at Beaumont School has had an overhaul this year to ensure our students will be prepared for the new GCSE specification coming into play very soon!
As students will need to know something about all material areas for the new GCSE, we've introduced a fun metal pendant project into the curriculum where students can learn more about copper properties and how to work with metals. The students are thoroughly enjoying it and they've had amazing outcomes so far: we took advantage of the beautiful Autumn weather this week to have a photo shoot outside!
Check out the fantastic work being produced by our students below!

French students visit the Textiles department
15 French students visited the Textiles students at Beaumont from a vocational school in South Eastern France. It was a wonderful morning sharing with our Year 10 and 11 students. The French students toured the school, which they loved.
The students were spending five days in London visiting cultural sights and visiting Wendy Shorter and doing an upholstery workshop with Wendy in Colney Heath. Therefore they spent the morning at Beaumont, learning about school life in an English school.
Thanks go to Mrs Dorothee Fisher and Suzanne Messonier, their teachers - it was a great morning.

Year 7 CED: The Chocolate Factory Experience Part 2!
Last week saw 7x spend their Curriculum Enrichment Day doing the Chocolate Factory Experience! Just like 7Y did back in January, which you can read about here, students took on their own roles in the factory gaining experience in 4 different areas: making the chocolates in Food, making the origami boxes in Product Design, making the labels in Textiles and the promotional key ring in Resistant Materials.
Students did a fantastic job and many Employee of the Day awards were handed out. Here are some pictures of the boxes created throughout the day:

Year 7 CED: The Chocolate Factory Experience
Last week, 7y spent their Curriculum Enrichment Day experiencing batch production by working in a chocolate factory in D&T! There were 4 stations throughout the day: making the chocolates in Food, making the origami boxes in Product Design, making the labels in Textiles and making a promotional key ring in Resistant Materials.
All students were responsible for one area of the production line to end up with a batch of over 100 chocolate boxes by the end of the day. Some students even took on extra responsibilities to work as managers and quality control inspectors during the process!
They all did a fantastic job, with some students earning an "Employee of the Day" certificate for their exceptional efforts or performance.
Here is an example of the finished product that was created by 7y using batch production:
Well done to all, and we look forward to doing this with 7x on the next CED in March!

Year 9 Resistant Materials: Mechanical Object
Students in year 9 have been developing their skills in Resistant Materials to design and manufacture clever mechanical objects. These skills will come in handy for students choosing to study Product Design at GCSE, as one of their projects is going to be Resistant Materials / practical based!
Students designed and manufactured these independently solving complex issues along the way with real determination and resilience! Some even made use of the laser cutter to add that extra touch!
Check them some of the amazing products below:
